Isolation of a germ-tube-forming revertant from Candida albicans B311V6.
We describe and partially characterize the isolation of a germ-tube-positive revertant from Candida albicans B311V6. This revertant has all of the properties of a germ-tube-forming strain of C. albicans except that it appears to have a nutrition defect.
متن کاملNew monoclonal antibody specific for Candida albicans germ tube.
Hydrophobic components of the germ tube of the dimorphic pathogenic fungus Candida albicans were used as immunogens to prepare monoclonal antibodies (MAbs). Among the resulting MAbs, one (MAb 16B1-F10) was shown by indirect immunofluorescence to be specific to the surface of the mycelium phase of the C. albicans and C. stellatoidea species. No labeling of any other genera and Candida species te...
متن کاملHemin induces germ tube formation in Candida albicans.
Hemin induced germination of Candida albicans blastoconidia when cells grown up to the early exponential phase were shifted from 28 to 37 degrees C (70 to 75% of cells exhibited germ tubes). N-Acetyl-D-glucosamine (GlcNAc), another inducer of myceliation in this fungus, caused a similar effect. The combination of hemin and GlcNAc resulted in a higher percentage (95%) of blastoconidial germinati...
متن کاملA Comparison of Germ Tube Production by Candida albicans in Three Media
The conversion of C. albicans. from commensal to the pathogenic state is associated with its ability to make the dimorphic transition from the yeast to the hyphal (germ tube) form. Three liquid media were compared in ability to promote germ tube production by C. albicans. Medium 199 and Glucose-Glycine Medium at 37 ̊C were highly satisfactory and gave 90 % conversion of yeast cells to hyphal-for...
متن کاملIndirect immunofluorescence assay for antibody to germ tube of Candida albicans--a new diagnostic test.
Indirect immunofluorescent and agglutination assay were used to study the anti-Candida albicans reactivities in the serum of 13 normal subjects and 14 patients infected with C. albicans. A significant increase in anti-C. albicans seroreactivity was observed during infection with this organism but the increase in the anti-germ tube immunofluorescence titre was the more marked. It is evident that...
